Update in relation to serious collision in Christchurch

A man seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Christchurch has very sadly died.

Dorset Police received a report at 8.43am on Wednesday 3 December 2025 of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian in Somerford Road.

The pedestrian – a man aged in his 70s – sustained very serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Very sadly, he died on the morning of Saturday 6 December 2025. The man’s family are aware and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

A 36-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and subsequently released under investigation as officers continue to investigate the collision.

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.

“We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision, and I would urge any witnesses who have not spoken to police – as well as anyone with relevant dashcam footage – to please make contact with us.”
