Appeal for witnesses following dangerous driving in Purbeck

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after a dangerous driving incident in Purbeck.

Between 10.15pm and 11pm on Friday 30 January 2026 a silver BMW was reported to have been driven dangerously along the High Street and surrounding area in Swanage.

The vehicle collided with pedestrians in the area of the Smoke on the Water bar and restaurant. No one was injured but it is alleged the driver subsequently produced a knife and made threats.

Police Constable Tom Rennie, of Purbeck police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and saw what happened or has relevant dashcam footage to please get in touch.

“We believe there was a large number of people in the area at the time and would like to hear from you if you have any information.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260013855. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
