Domestic abuser behind bars after being tracked down to Thailand
A domestic abuser who fled to Thailand is serving a jail term after being tracked down and returned to this country to face justice.
Following relentless efforts Nicholas Cash, aged 26, was located and apprehended in Thailand in December 2025 having left the country while awaiting trial for domestic abuse charges in October 2022.
The offences related to a campaign of sustained abuse of a former partner over a period of several months while the defendant was living in Bournemouth.
Cash was found guilty in his absence on Friday 24 February 2023 of offences of controlling or coercive behaviour, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and administering a poisonous or noxious substance with intent.
In a bid to ensure he faced the consequence of his actions and secure justice for the victim, officers from Dorset Police worked with a range of agencies to track Cash down. Those involved included the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, The National Extradition Unit and the Royal Thai Police.
Following extensive enquiries, Cash was arrested by the Royal Thai Police on Tuesday 23 December 2025 and was made the subject of extradition proceedings.
He was returned to the United Kingdom, with officers from Dorset Police meeting him as his plane arrived at Heathrow Airport to ensure he appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court, where he was sentenced on Tuesday 6 October 2026 to eight years in prison for the original offences as well as an additional 16 months for breaching court bail and breaching a suspended sentence order in relation to previous domestic abuse offences involving another victim.
Detective Constable Michael White, of Dorset Police, said: “At the centre of our extensive efforts to locate Nicholas Cash and bring him to justice was the victim of his abusive behaviour.
“We have continued to keep her updated and I hope this case demonstrates that we will do absolutely everything in our power to ensure perpetrators are not able to escape the consequences of their actions.
“We have carried out detailed work to liaise with partner agencies both nationally and abroad, which culminated in Cash being tracked down in Thailand and detained in December last year.
“This was not the end of the matter as we continued our efforts to ensure he was extradited and returned to this country so he could be sentenced for his crimes.”
Dan Newell, Regional Manager at the National Crime Agency, said: “Through our International Liaison Network, officers from the NCA have worked closely with the Royal Thai Police Central Investigation Bureau in this case and I would like to thank them for their continued support in identifying and locating UK nationals who are wanted in relation to serious offences, no matter how long ago they were committed.
“We will continue to work collaboratively with global partners to tackle all forms of serious and organised crime by sharing intelligence and working together on joint operations."
