Witness appeal following reported dangerous driving in Ferndown

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate a report of dangerous driving in Ferndown.

At around 9.45pm on Wednesday 8 April 2026 officers responded to reports of a possible intoxicated driver in the area of McDonald’s in Ringwood Road.

Officers reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle – a grey Honda CRV – in the adjacent Halfords car park, but it made off.

The vehicle is reported to have travelled along the A31 dual carriageway in the wrong direction before crossing the grass central reservation and driving back on the correct side of the road towards St Leonards.

The vehicle was reportedly subsequently located unoccupied nearby. Following fast-time enquiries, a 21-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Detective Constable David Williams, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries into this incident and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

“I would also urge motorists who were in the vicinity around the relevant time to please review any dashcam footage for anything that might assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260049900. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
