Witness and dashcam appeal following reported fail-to-stop collision in Wimborne

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward following a reported fail-to-stop road traffic collision in Wimborne.

Dorset Police received a report at 7.05am on Monday 9 September 2024 that a grey Skoda Octavia failed to stop after colliding with a bollard in Smugglers Lane in the Colehill area.

Following enquiries, officers located and seized the vehicle near the Canford Bottom roundabout and a 34-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of driving and drugs offences. He has been released under investigation as officers continue their enquiries.

Police Constable Steve Hall, of Dorset Police, said: “We are investigating this incident and from our enquiries I understand there were two key witnesses in the area around the time of the collision who we are keen to speak to and take their account of what happened.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who were driving in the vicinity and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

“Furthermore, I would ask any residents of the area to please check their home doorbell or CCTV cameras to see if they have captured anything of relevance to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240138921. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
