Thousands of pounds-worth of cannabis was located in a vehicle after the driver failed to stop for officers in Poole.

On the evening of Saturday 4 May 2024, officers received reports raising concerns about the manner of driving of a black BMW.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped by officers in Seaview Road, before driving off at speed.

Officers followed the vehicle and it was identified as travelling in excess of 81mph, driving through a red light and narrowly avoiding colliding with other vehicles.

The vehicle collided with the wall of a property in Ringwood Road, causing damage to two properties.

When officers reached the vehicle, the driver had already fled the scene and extensive efforts were carried out to try and locate them.

A mobile phone and a driving licence – in the name of 34-year-old Daniel John McPhillimy of Poole – was found inside the car.

A search of the BMW uncovered over £30,000-worth of cannabis resin.

McPhillimy attended Bournemouth police station a few days later and was arrested in connection with the incident. A search of his address led to the discovery of more cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to criminal damage, possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B and dangerous driving.

McPhillimy was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 26 June 2026 to three years and four months in prison. He has also been disqualified from driving for five years.

Detective Staff Investigator Dean Smith, of BCP CID, said: “McPhillimy acted dangerously and recklessly while in control of a vehicle to try and evade police.

“He caused a significant amount of damage when he crashed his car and it is very fortunate that no members of the public were injured.

“There is no place in Dorset for anyone who is dealing drugs – we know the detrimental effect it can have on our communities and will always look to take action.”
