Man charged following reported sexual assault in East Dorset
A man has been charged and is due to appear in court following investigative work by officers into a report of a sexual assault in East Dorset.
Dorset Police received a report at 1.51am on Sunday 27 July 2025 that a woman – aged in her 50s – had been sexually assaulted by a man in Avon Castle Drive in St Ives.
The incident is reported to have occurred a short time before the report at around 1.30am.
A Mauritian national, Eshwin Soobhug, aged 28 years old and of Windmill Lane in East Dorset, was previously arrested in connection with the incident.
Following further investigative work, Soobhug – who defines himself as being of Asian Pakistani including Asian British ethnicity – has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates' Court on Saturday 16 August 2025.
Detective Chief Inspector Nicky Jenkins, of Dorset County CID, said: “The victim is continuing to be supported and has been updated with the developments in the investigation.
“This matter will be subject to active court proceedings, and it is vital that the justice process is allowed to follow its course. We would therefore urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, particularly online and on social media.”
