Appeal for information following reported assault and criminal damage in Christchurch

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward following a report of assault and criminal damage in Christchurch.

At around 8.25pm on Tuesday 4 June 2024, Dorset Police received a report of an altercation between a man and a woman near the fountain roundabout in Fountain Way. It is reported that the victim – a woman in her 20s – was assaulted in the middle of the road by the man who then damaged the wing-mirror of a passing car.

Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries.

Officers attended the incident and a 27-year-old man from New Milton in Hampshire was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assault by beating. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Evie Ahmadi, of Bournemouth police, said: “We know that several motorists would have been affected by this incident as it occurred in the middle of a busy road.

“We are directly appealing to the owners of a blue Ford Focus and a white converted van who may be key witnesses to this incident.

“We are also appealing to the owner of the black Vauxhall Corsa which reportedly incurred damage to the wingmirror to come forward, as well as any other motorists whose vehicles may have sustained damage.

“Lastly, we would ask any residents or motorists in the area to review their doorbell cameras and dashcams to see if they have captured anything of relevance which may aid our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240083862. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
