Appeal for witnesses following reported assault in West Bay

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they investigate a report of an assault in West Bay.

Dorset Police received a report at around 7.50pm on Tuesday 21 May 2024 that a man aged in his 20s had been assaulted in George Street. The victim sustained a suspected broken nose and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers attended and, following enquiries, a 19-year-old Bridport man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. It was further reported that the man assaulted two police officers as he was being transported to custody and he was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

He has been released on police bail as further enquiries are carried out.

Police Constable Jessica Burton, of the Weymouth Volume Crime Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate this report of assault and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who may be able to assist our investigation.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured any relevant home CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident.”
