Witness appeal following fatal road traffic collision in Christchurch

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate a road traffic collision in Christchurch.

Dorset Police received a report at 11am on Monday 30 January 2023 of a collision in Hoburne Lane at the junction with Primrose Way involving a motorbike and a mobility scooter.

The rider of the scooter – a woman aged in her 90s – sustained very serious injuries and sadly died at the scene. Her family has been informed.

The male motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment.

Road closures remain in place between Primrose Way and Highcliffe Road while emergency services are at the scene.

Police Sergeant Gareth Thomas, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who sadly died in this collision.

“I am conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would ask any witnesses, or motorists who may have captured either the mobility scooter or the motorbike on dashcam footage prior to the collision, to please come forward.

“Also, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place. These are necessary to allow us to carry out a thorough examination of the scene.”
