Witness appeal following serious assault in Gillingham
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward following a serious assault outside a supermarket in Gillingham.
Dorset Police received a report at 6.37pm on Saturday 4 July 2026 that a man had been assaulted outside the Waitrose store in Chantry Fields.
It was reported that the victim, a man aged in his 20s, was assaulted by a group of male offenders, who then left the scene in a blue car.
Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
One of the offenders is described as wearing a dark-coloured top, khaki or brown shorts and dark-coloured boots, another was said to be wearing a black top and black shorts.
Investigations Officer Flo Winstanley, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out active enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and identify those involved.
“I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with information that might assist our investigation, to please contact us.
“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who were in the area of the Waitrose car park in Gillingham around 6.30pm on Saturday 4 July 2026 and may have captured any relevant dashcam footage.
“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the cordon was in place as we carried out enquiries at the scene.
“We are now in an investigative phase and there is no information to indicate any threat to the wider public.”
