Update – woman charged following fatal road traffic collision in Bournemouth

Detectives have charged a woman in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police received a report at approximately 2am on Wednesday 9 April 2025 of a collision involving a black Range Rover and a motorbike in Moore Avenue in Bournemouth.

It was reported that the Range Rover failed to stop at the scene of the collision.

Very sadly, the motorcyclist, 28-year-old Joey Johnstone from Bournemouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following fast-paced enquiries, two 17-year-old boys and woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and were subsequently released on police bail.

A 39-year-old man from Bournemouth was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. He was released under investigation.

Following extensive enquiries, led by detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team, the woman arrested – 36-year-old Zoe Treadwell from Bournemouth – has been charged with murder. She is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 3 May 2025.

The two 17-year-old boys, both from Bournemouth, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on police bail whilst enquiries into their involvement continue. 

Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and loved ones of Joey Johnstone and we are continuing to keep them updated with the latest developments in our investigation.

“This matter will now be the subject of court proceedings, and we would urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, including online or on social media, as it is vital that the justice process is allowed to follow its course without prejudice.

“Local officers continue to carry out regular reassurance patrols in the area and can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns.”
