Officers took proactive action against anti-social driving and riding in West Bay following concerns raised by residents.

On the evening of Thursday 2 July 2026, officers from the Roads Policing Team, local neighbourhood policing team, Force Support Group, Special Constabulary and the road casualty reduction officers carried out an operation in West Bay.

Residents have previously raised concerns about anti-social driving and riding in the area and the operation utilised specialist technology to tackle the issue.

A police drone was deployed over the area to give a higher vantage point to spot any offences of poor driving, allowing officers to then intercept motorists on the ground.

During the operation, anyone who was identified as driving in excess of the speed or in an anti-social manner was dealt with.

Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs after they were identified reportedly using their vehicles in an anti-social manner.

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “This type of behaviour can have a real significant impact on residents, and we have listened to the concerns that have been raised.

“We are taking a zero-tolerance approach and anyone who was identified as driving otherwise than in accordance with the law received the appropriate action.

“This type of reckless driving or riding can have very serious consequences – what might seem like fun amongst new drivers can be extremely dangerous and has a big impact on those affected.

“We will continue to take an innovative approach to address this issue and would encourage anyone with information or intelligence to please report it to us.

"This activity formed part of a national campaign this month, aimed at raising awareness of the most common and dangerous road behaviours.

“Our priority is to keep everyone safe on the roads in Dorset and to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in a road traffic collision.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said: "I welcome this targeted operation in West Bay, which reflects the ongoing commitment of Dorset Police to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities. Local residents have raised concerns about anti-social and dangerous driving and it is important that we continue to respond with visible enforcement and positive action.

"Everyone should be able to feel safe when visiting, living and travelling in Dorset. By taking firm action against those who put others at risk, we are making it clear that dangerous and anti-social behaviour on our roads will not be accepted. I would also like to thank the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication in helping to keep our communities and roads safe."
