Officers investigating a fail-to-stop road traffic collision near Wimborne are appealing for information and issuing an image of a man they would like to identify.

Dorset Police received a report at 12.58pm on Wednesday 9 September 2026 of a collision on the A31 between Canford Bottom Roundabout and Merely Roundabout involving a grey Fiat Ducato van, a white Scania Tipper truck and a black Volkswagen Passat.

It was further reported that the Fiat Ducato van was on fire and the driver of the Volkswagen Passat had left the scene.

Officers attended alongside the ambulance service and fire service, and a road closure was put in place.

Two occupants of the Fiat Ducanto were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Searches were carried out for the driver of the Volkswagen Passat but he was not located.

Police Constable Chandler Organ, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out a detailed investigation into this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please get in touch.

“I would also ask motorists who were travelling in the area around the relevant time to please review any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.

“As part of my enquiries, I am issuing an image of a man I would like to identify. I would ask anyone who recognises him to please get in touch.”
