Witness appeal following assault in Weymouth

Officers investigating an assault are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At around 12pm on Wednesday 12 June 2024 a woman was walking along the Rodwell Trail and had just passed under Buxton Road when she saw four people who are known to her.

It is reported that the woman – aged in her 20s from Portland – was assaulted by the group. She attended hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be serious.

Police Constable Richard Symonds, of Weymouth police, said: “This incident occurred in the middle of the day when there may have been a number of people in the area.

“I would ask anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“In particular, I understand an elderly woman came to the aid of the victim during the incident. I am appealing to her to please come forward so we can take her account of what she witnessed.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240088341. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
