A burglar who targeted elderly victims has been jailed following an investigation by the Neighbourhood Crime Team.

Aaron Carl Winzar, 36 and of Bournemouth, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison for two distraction burglaries in the county.

On Tuesday 26 August 2025, Winzar knocked on the door of a 91-year-old woman in the area of Wimborne Road in Bournemouth and told her he was there to measure her bathroom.

He was allowed to enter the address, where he stole £400 in cash before leaving.

Then, on Thursday 4 September 2025, Winzar knocked on the door of a 68-year-old woman in the area of Victoria Road in Wimborne and told her he was working for a housing agency.

While in the property, he stole £3,500 in cash as well as €500.

An investigation was launched by the Neighbourhood Crime Team – the Force’s unit dedicated to investigating burglary crime and targeting prolific offenders.

Winzar was identified as a result of CCTV enquiries and was arrested on Wednesday 10 September 2025, before being charged with two counts of dwelling burglary.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 20 November 2025.

Police Constable Ryan Greenwell, of Dorset Police, said: “Winzar posed as a tradesman and agency worker to gain entry to the homes of two elderly women.

“We understand the long-lasting impact these distraction burglaries may have on the victims, who had their personal space entered and money stolen.

“Thanks to our enquiries, we were able to bring Winzar before the courts to face justice for his actions.

“We hope this demonstrates that our team is dedicated to perusing criminality and ensuring burglars are held to account for their offending.”
