Investigators have praised the courage of a woman who helped them to secure the conviction of a violent rapist.

Aydin Kolliari, aged 18 and of Southampton, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court to be sentenced on Friday 30 May 2025 after being found guilty at an earlier trial of two counts of rape, five charges of assault by beating and two counts of intentional strangulation as well as charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

At around 10.30am on Sunday 29 September 2024 officers responded to concerns raised around the occupants staying in a room at the Hunters Moon Lodge in Middlemarsh, following reports of a disturbance.

Officers attended and found the victim in distress and Kolliari, who was known to her, was arrested at the scene.

The victim reported that she had been assaulted by the defendant, who used her phone to strike her round the face before kicking her and putting his hand to her throat.

It was further reported that he then raped his victim.

The victim was supported by officers and subsequently made further disclosures relating to being physically and sexually assaulted at the hands of the defendant.

Following his conviction, Kolliari was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Investigations Officer Florence Winstanley, of Dorset County CID, said: “Thanks to the swift response of officers when this was first reported, we were able to intervene while the victim was being subjected to a violent sexual assault.

“We were able to safeguard her and thanks to her subsequent courage to disclose the full extent of Kolliari’s offending, we were able to compile extensive evidence and ultimately secure a conviction.

“The victim’s bravery in supporting our enquiries and the subsequent court process has helped put a violent sexual offender behind bars.

“I hope the strength she has shown will encourage other victims of domestic violence and sexual offences to have the courage to come forward in the knowledge that they will be fully supported and we will carry out a robust investigation to hold perpetrators to account.”
