Officers are renewing their appeal for information as they search for a man who escaped from lawful custody in Poole.

Dorset Police received a report at 5.28pm on Thursday 2 April 2026 that 32-year-old Jason Evans had made off from a privately operated prisoner transport vehicle in Poole Road.

Officers attended the location and carried out detailed searches in the area, with assistance from the NPAS helicopter.

Evans was charged with assault and other offences and had appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 April 2026 and was remanded by the court. Following his court appearance, he was being transported to a different location by a privately operated prisoner transport company when he made off.

He is described as white, five feet eight inches tall and of medium build with ginger hair. Jason Evans was last seen wearing grey clothing, no shoes and had a handcuff on his wrist.

Superintendent Ross Graham, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to carry out extensive searches and enquiries to locate Jason Evans as soon as possible and return him to lawful custody.

“It is likely that he has now changed his clothing and I would urge the public to please come forward and report anyone who matches the description given and is seen acting suspiciously to try and avoid detection.

“We would ask the public not to approach him directly and to please dial 999 immediately.

“There will continue to be an extensive police presence in the area as we carry out these enquiries and officers can be approached by members of the community with any concerns.”

If you see Jason Evans you should dial 999 immediately. Anyone else with information should call 101, quoting incident number 2:388 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
