Public appeal following report of rape in Weymouth
Detectives investigating a report of rape in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Dorset Police received a report at 10.37pm on Sunday 18 February 2024 raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the Park District area.
Officers attended and located the woman, aged in her 20s, who reported she had been raped by a man in an alleyway off Stanley Street and Queen Street between approximately 9.15pm and 9.30pm earlier in the same evening.
A cordon was put in place and a thorough examination of the scene was carried out.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “A detailed investigation into the incident is underway and the victim is being supported throughout our enquiries.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious to please contact us.
“I would also ask residents with home CCTV or motorists with a dashcam fitted who were travelling in the vicinity to please check their footage for anything of relevance.
“We are doing all we can to identify the man responsible and officers can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns.”
