Witness appeal following attempted burglary on Portland

Officers investigating an attempted burglary at an address on Portland are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At around 12.30am on Sunday 4 January 2026, the occupants of a property in Bowers Road were woken after their doorbell camera activated.

It was later discovered that damage had been caused to a window frame.

A man was seen leaving the area, who is described as five feet eleven inches tall and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Police Constable Billy Taylor, of Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Thankfully, no entry was gained to the property and nothing was stolen.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area to please come forward.

“I would also ask residents to please check their home CCTV for anything of footage showing a man matching the description in the area around the time of the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260001222. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
