Witness appeal following alleged assault in Bournemouth

Officers investigating an alleged assault in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The incident happened at around 7pm on Thursday 26 February 2026 in Poole Road in the Westbourne area of the town.

It was reported that a man grabbed a woman by the throat and pushed her to the floor outside the Romanzo restaurant. The woman did not sustain any serious injuries.

The man and the woman were known to each other.

Officers attended and a 61-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested on suspicion of assault and intentional strangulation. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Investigations Officer Alice Harmsworth, of Bournemouth police, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to the incident outside the restaurant or anyone who may have information in relation to it to please contact us.”
