A serial burglar has been jailed following a detailed investigation by detectives.

Darren Jones, 39 and of Bournemouth, was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for burglary and fraud offences he committed in Bournemouth.

On Friday 24 January 2025 at around 5.25am, a crowbar was used to force entry into a garden shed in Knyveton Road and a mountain bike was stolen from within.

Then, on Sunday 16 March 2025 at around 10pm, a residential property in the same road was broken into and two cars - a black Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Kia Ceed - were stolen from outside the address.

A bank card left within the Kia Ceed was later used to purchase items at a nearby petrol station and newsagent.

Following enquiries by officers, Jones was identified as being the man involved in the two burglaries, as well as the car thefts and fraudulent card use.

He was arrested and charged with two burglary offences, two counts of fraud by false representation, and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

Jones was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 29 May 2025 after pleading guilty to all the charges against him.

The judge also took into consideration five other theft offences, which took place in Christchurch and Bournemouth, when sentencing Jones.

Detective Constable Christian Bryant, of Dorset Police, said: “We recognise the impact burglaries have on victims when they happen.

“Thanks to our enquiries, we were able to identify Darren Jones as the man responsible for these offences and bring him before the court to face justice.

“Dorset Police will always endeavour to take a positive approach to the issue of burglaries and other serious acquisitive crimes in the county.”
