Detectives investigating a suspected arson at a police station are appealing for information and are issuing images of a man they would like to identify.

At around 3.30am on Saturday 25 April 2026 a small fire ignited outside the boiler room at Sherborne Police Station.

The fire did not spread to the station building and no injuries were sustained.

The cause of the fire is currently believed to be deliberate.

Detective Inspector Rich Barnett, of Dorset County CID, said: “An investigation has been launched into this incident and I am appealing for anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I am also issuing images of a man I would like to identify and I am keen to hear from anyone with information relating to his identity. I appreciate these images are not the best quality, but I am hopeful someone may still recognise the individual.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260060679. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
