WEB - Live social media event for police officer recruitment
Dorset Police is hosting a live social media event to give prospective new police officers or special constables the chance to ask questions about joining the Force.
Officers and staff will be going live on Dorset Police’s main Facebook account from 6.30pm until 7.30pm on Monday 9 February 2026 to answer questions about policing the beautiful county of Dorset.
Specialists will be on hand to answer questions about the recruitment process to become a police constable, detective constable or special constable. We will also be joined by serving police officers and special constables, who will be able to share an insight into what a role in policing looks like.
Applications to become a police constable, detective constable or transferee are open now and we are offering:
- Four different entry routes to suit your interests, qualifications and experience.
- A buddy to all applicants to help support them through the recruitment process.
- Relocation package for all transferees.
- Military experience is accepted instead of qualifications.

We are also actively looking at recruiting special constables this year and are inviting people to submit an expression of interest ahead of the launch date. Click here for more information: Special Constables - Who, What, How and Why - Working in Partnership
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan, of Dorset Police, said: “Policing is a career like no other and our popular live social media events offer the opportunity for individuals who are considering a career in policing, or anyone who is seeking a new volunteering opportunity, to ask any questions to our subject experts. Although this event will be aimed at new police officers and special constables, we welcome questions from anyone interested in transferring from another force or people looking to re-join the police.
“In Dorset we currently offer four different entry routes to become a police officer, based on education and experience, regardless of whether you have a degree or not. Military experience is now recognised instead of qualifications. We are keen to attract applicants with a passion to keep Dorset in the top ten safest places in England and Wales.
“We are also excited to be recruiting more special constables – a group of dedicated volunteers, with the same power as regular police officers, who make the time in their busy lives to make a difference to their communities.
“This event is held online to make it accessible to as many people as possible, with a recording available following the event for those who can’t watch it live. I hope this encourages more people to join us and love Dorset while we continue to make it a safe county for everyone.”
You can follow this event via the live stream on our Facebook page. Visit our page and click 'interested' on the pinned post for a reminder when we go live.
