Witness appeal following serious injury collision in Wareham

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward following a serious injury road traffic collision in Wareham.

Dorset Police received a report at around 9pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022 of a collision on the A351 Sandford Road, between the Organford Road junction and the junction with Woodlands Drive, involving a car and a pedestrian.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service and the pedestrian, a 19-year-old local man, was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The driver of the car, a local man aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded to the incident and an examination of the scene was carried out. The road was reopened at around 5.20am on Wednesday 9 February 2022.

Police Constable Mike Burt, of the traffic unit, said: “We are continuing to make enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision. I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area around the relevant time who has dashcam fitted to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. These were necessary to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to be safely conducted.”
