Further investigation update following death of man in North Dorset
Detectives have concluded their investigation into the circumstances of the death of a man in North Dorset.
The body of a man was located in the area of Newton Hill near Sturminster Newton at around 12.45pm on Saturday 24 May 2025.
It was confirmed to be that of a 23-year-old local man, who had been reported missing after last being seen in the area of Station Road at around 3am on Saturday 17 May 2025.
An investigation was launched by detectives into the circumstances surrounding the death.
As part of their enquiries, a Blandford man aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released under investigation.
The arrest was made to assist officers with obtaining as much information as possible, while providing legal protection to the individual involved.
Following an extensive investigation, which has included detailed toxicological and pathological submissions, detectives are now satisfied that there is no evidence of any third-party involvement in the man’s death. The arrested man has been released from under investigation and will face no further police action.
The deceased man’s family has been kept fully updated with developments throughout the investigation and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.
The matter will now be the subject of inquest proceedings, and detectives will continue to assist HM Coroner as required.
