Appeal for information after shop worker assaulted in Weymouth

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after a member of staff was assaulted outside a shop in Weymouth.

At around 10.30am on Thursday 30 January 2025, a man entered Food Warehouse in Jubilee Close and left the shop without paying for some items.

The suspect was challenged by a member of staff, but he continued to walk away out of the shop.

The staff member followed the man outside and when they were between Matalan and Tapi Carpets & Floors, the offender punched the victim in the face.

The suspect is described as a white man wearing a beige or light brown hat with headphones over the top, a blue coat and was carrying a black rucksack.

Police Constable Nick May, of Weymouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and now believe there may have been people in the area who saw what happened.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the assault, or may have captured any relevant dashcam footage while travelling in the car park, to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the identity of the suspect.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250014161. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
