Police update following earlier possible firearms incident in Bournemouth

Officers investigating an incident in Bournemouth reported to have involved a possible firearm are issuing an update following quick-time enquiries.

Dorset Police received a report at 11.54am on Tuesday 22 April 2025 of an altercation involving two men in St Swithun’s Road in Bournemouth, near to the junction with Frances Road.

It was reported that one of the men was in possession of a possible firearm and subsequently had left the scene. There were no reports of any injuries.

Officers have carried out extensive searches and quick-time enquiries throughout the day and there is no evidence to suggest a viable firearm was involved. It is believed the weapon was a BB gun or similar.

The police cordon has now been removed. While no arrests have been made, officers will continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including reviewing nearby CCTV footage to establish exactly what happened and who was involved.

Detective Superintendent Steve May, of Dorset Police, said: “We are aware of the public’s understandable concern around this incident and discussion of it online.

“We want to reassure our residents that we are confident no viable firearm was involved.

“Officers will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols of the area and can be approached with any questions or concerns.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while our officers and staff worked at pace to establish if there was a wider risk to the public.”
