Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following an attempted theft of a cash machine in Wimborne.

Between 3.10am and 3.25am on Wednesday 29 April 2026 two men attended the BP petrol station in Leigh Road in a silver or grey van, possibly a Ford Transit, and attempted to steal the ATM machine at the premises.

It is not believed any money was stolen and the offenders, who were dressed in black with their faces covered, returned to their vehicle before it made off in the direction of the Canford Bottom Roundabout.

Detective Inspector Rich Barnett, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during the early hours of Wednesday 29 April 2026 to please contact us.

“I am releasing an image of the vehicle involved, which is not the best quality but may help to jog the memory of anyone who was in the vicinity.

“I would also urge anyone with relevant home CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260061079. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
