A burglar who stole cash and sentimental jewellery from a home in Bournemouth has been jailed.

Colin Shields, aged 55 and of Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court to two years and six months in prison.

At around 11.30am on Thursday 2 October 2025, Dorset Police received a report of a break in at a residential address in Watcombe Road.

It was reported that a window had been smashed and items had been stolen from within the property, including cash and two jewellery boxes containing sentimental pieces.

An investigation was launched, but on Wednesday 22 October 2025, Shields handed himself in to police in connection with the incident.

He was arrested, interviewed and subsequently charged with dwelling burglary.

Shields pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 20 November 2025.

Police Constable Joshua Pickering, of Bournemouth police, said: “We recognise that burglaries can have a significant impact on a victim, making them feel unsafe in their own home.

“As a force, we remain committed to reducing burglaries in the region and thoroughly investigating reported incidents to ensure that those involved are held accountable for their offending.

“We are glad that Colin Shields is now behind bars and is facing justice for his actions.”
