Investigation ongoing following death of man reportedly assaulted in Poole
Detectives are investigating the death of a man who was reportedly assaulted in Poole.
Dorset Police received a report at 12.46am on Sunday 14 June 2026 that a man had been assaulted outside the Parkstone Trades and Labour Club in Ashley Road.
Emergency services attended and a 68-year-old man from Christchurch was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
Following enquiries, a 45-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and subsequently released on police bail as further investigative work was carried out.
It was reported that the victim and the arrested man were believed to be known to each other.
Very sadly, it was confirmed that on Sunday 21 June 2026 the injured man had died in hospital. His family were able to be present and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
Following his death and further enquiries, the 45-year-old man from Poole was re-arrested on suspicion of murder. He has again been released on police bail as detectives continue to carry out enquiries.
Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.
“We have been conducting detailed enquiries into this incident and our investigation remains ongoing.
“I would urge anyone who has any information relating to this matter and has not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.”
