Charges following reported arson in Bournemouth

Two people have been arrested and charged after officers responded swiftly to a report of a suspicious fire in Bournemouth.

At around 1am on Friday 12 June 2026 Dorset Police received a report of a fire involving a pile of newspapers in the street in Southbourne Grove.

It was reported that the newspapers had been stolen from a nearby store.

Officers immediately attended the scene and two suspects were located nearby and detained.

Two Bournemouth men – aged 39 and 46 – were arrested and have been charged with arson and theft. They are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 6 July 2026.

Detective Inspector Leo Glendon, of BCP CID, said: “Officers responded quickly to this incident and their actions resulted in two suspects being arrested and charged in connection with this matter.

“I would also like to thank two workers from an electricity company who were in the vicinity and assisted with putting out the fire to prevent any further damage.

“Our investigation remains ongoing and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone who has captured any relevant footage, to please make contact with us.”
