Man jailed following robbery investigation by newly-formed Neighbourhood Crime Team
A man has been jailed following an investigation into a robbery in Bournemouth by the newly-formed Neighbourhood Crime Team.
Tommy Burton, 43 and of Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 13 June 2025 to three years and eight months in prison.
At around 8.15pm on Sunday 23 March 2025, an elderly man was withdrawing £100 cash from an ATM at the Co-op in Christchurch Road when he was approached by an unknown man.
The unknown man pushed him to the ground before stealing his cash and running away.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
An investigation was launched by the Neighbourhood Crime Team (NCT) – the Force’s newly-formed team dedicated to investigating burglary crime, targeting prolific offenders.
Officers from the NCT were able to identify Tommy Burton as the suspect through quick time CCTV enquiries, and he was arrested at a nearby address later that evening.
Burton was charged and remanded for the offence of robbery on Friday 28 March 2025.
He pleaded guilty to the charge at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 13 June 2025 and was sentenced the same day.
As well as serving a prison sentence, Burton will also be required to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
Police Constable Ted Carlton, of Dorset Police, said: “This was a nasty incident in which Burton targeted an elderly and vulnerable man to steal from.
“The team worked hard to secure the charge against Burton and we are glad he is now behind bars facing justice for his actions.
“We hope this demonstrates that we will relentlessly pursue criminality and are determined to bring offenders to justice to provide a high standard of service for the victims.”
