Attacker arrested at scene of Bournemouth stabbing brought to justice
An attacker who was arrested at the scene of a stabbing in Bournemouth has been brought to justice following an investigation by detectives.
At around 7pm on Monday 24 February 2025 officers responded to reports of a stabbing in Richmond Hill.
It was reported that a man had assaulted a woman aged in her 30s, spitting in her face before punching her, causing her to fall to the ground.
The woman’s partner went to intervene and the attacker stabbed him repeatedly in the torso.
Officers attended and located 22-year-old Maksims Pilko, of Bournemouth, near to the scene with a silver flick knife nearby.
The male victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he received treatment to nine stab wounds.
Pilko, a Latvian national who gave his self-defined ethnicity as any other white background, also sustained a stab wound to his thigh during the altercation.
The defendant was subsequently charged and entered guilty pleas to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a knife and assault by beating. He was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 8 January 2026 to eight years and one month in prison, with an extender licence period of a further four years.
Detective Constable Lizzie Christie, of BCP CID, said: “The violent actions of Maksims Pilko, repeatedly stabbing his male victim in the street, could easily have fatal consequence.
“Thanks to the swift response of officers on the night, and the thorough investigation by detectives that followed, we have now been able bring him to justice for his dangerous offending.
“I also want to thank the victims in this case for their support throughout the investigation and court process.
“We remain committed to tackling knife crime through a range of education and public engagement as well as robust enforcement action.
“We will relentlessly strive to remove knives from our streets and pursue those who choose to carry and use them.”
