Dorset Police received a report at 4.08pm on Tuesday 20 February 2024 of a collision on the A30 at Babylon Hill, near to the junction with Marl Lane, involving a blue Mini Cooper and a blue Volvo articulated lorry.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Mini, a Yeovil man aged in his 20s, was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with injuries that were believed to be life-threatening. His family has been informed.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage.

“Finally, I appreciate this incident led to the closure of a main road for a period of several hours and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while this was in place. The closure was necessary to allow emergency services to safely respond and for a detailed examination of the collision scene to be carried out.”
