Appeal for witnesses following attempted theft in Christchurch
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following an attempted theft in Christchurch.
Dorset Police received a report at around 7.10pm on Friday 29 July 2022 of an attempted theft near to Priory Veterinary Group in Purewell.
It is reported that a man – aged in his 70s from Christchurch – was approached by two women who asked him to sign a survey. The man refused and the women subsequently asked him for directions to Bournemouth.
One of the women shook the victim’s hand to thank him for the information, while the second woman tried to hug him.
The victim felt someone attempting to remove the clasp of his Rolex watch and managed to get away from the women before it was stolen.
Detective Sergeant Karen Penn, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and would urge anyone with information about who was responsible to please come forward.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to remain vigilant when wearing valuable items, especially if they are approached by someone and asked to fill in a survey or a form. If someone is approaching you from an established charity, they will have clear identification.”
