Update – man charged in connection with reported rape in Bournemouth
A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with a reported rape in Bournemouth.
Dorset Police received a report at 1.57am on Sunday 6 July 2025 that a 20-year-old woman was reportedly raped in a public toilet in Undercliff Drive in Bournemouth.
Officers attended and following fast-time enquiries, a 31-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of rape. Following further investigative work, he has now been released without charge and will face no further action.
Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of the Dorset Police Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “After extensive enquiries, an 18-year-old man from the West Drayton area of Middlesex was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault. After consulting with our colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), charges were authorised in respect of rape and sexual assault. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
“I would like to pass on my thanks to the members of the public who have come forward and assisted our investigation.
“The victim is continuing to be supported and has been updated with the developments in the investigation.
“This matter will be subject to active court proceedings, and it is vital that the justice process is allowed to follow its course. We would therefore urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, particularly online and on social media.”
