Image appeal following fraud in Bournemouth
Detectives investigating a courier fraud involving a victim in Bournemouth are issuing images of a man they want to identify.
Dorset Police received a report on Thursday 21 May 2026 that a man aged in his 70s from Bournemouth had been contacted the previous day by someone purporting to be from his bank, who stated someone had been fraudulently using his bank account. He was then transferred to someone claiming to be from the ‘Serious Fraud Team’ of the Metropolitan Police and advised to withdraw cash totalling £11,000, with a password given for someone to come and pick up the cash as part of the investigation.
The victim subsequently received a call stating someone was outside his address to pick up the money. He handed the money over to a man, who then walked down the road and got into a taxi.
Detective Constable Stephen Taylor, of BCP CID, said: “We have been carrying out detailed enquiries into this matter and I am now in a position to issue images of a man we would like to identify.
“I would urge anyone with information regarding his identity to please contact us.
“I would also urge members of the public to remain vigilant around this mode of offending and make any elderly relatives aware.
“Neither the police nor your bank should ask you to withdraw cash and send a courier for collection and if you have any concerns, call the bank or police straight away using a publicly listed number.”
