Dorset Police received a report at 4.08pm on Tuesday 20 February 2024 of a collision on the A30 at Babylon Hill, near to the junction with Marl Lane, involving a blue Mini Cooper and a blue Volvo articulated lorry.
Emergency services attended and the driver of the Mini, a Yeovil man aged in his 20s, was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol having sustained serious injuries. Very sadly, he died in hospital on the evening of Wednesday 21 February 2024. His family has been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
Sergeant Geraint Butler, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man who sadly died, and officers are doing all they can to support the family at this extremely difficult time.
“We owe it to them to conduct a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would again urge any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage of the incident to please come forward.
“From our enquiries so far, we believe there were at least two vehicles in the vicinity whose occupants are likely to have witnessed what happened that we have so far not been able to trace. We would urge these people to please make contact with us.
“We also understand an off-duty nurse stopped to give assistance at the scene and we would be keen to speak to this individual and take their account.
“Furthermore, I would urge anyone travelling in either direction on the A30 between Yeovil and Sherborne around this time of the collision to please review any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance, including the movements of the vehicles involved prior to the collision.”
