Officers carrying out extensive searches to locate a man who escaped from lawful custody are appealing for information from the public to help find him.

Dorset Police received a report at 5.28pm on Thursday 2 April 2026 that 32-year-old Jason Evans had made off from a privately operated prisoner transport vehicle in Poole Road in Poole.

Officers have attended the location and are carrying out detailed searches in the area, with assistance from the NPAS helicopter.

Evans was charged with assault and other offences and had appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 April 2026 and was remanded by the court. Following his court appearance, he was being transported to a different location by a privately operated prisoner transport company when he made off.

He is described as white, five feet eight inches tall and of medium build with ginger hair and was last seen wearing grey clothing.

Superintendent Joe Pardey, of Dorset Police, said: “I would like to reassure members of the public that we have officers carrying out searches and other enquiries in a bid to locate Jason Evans as soon as possible and return him to lawful custody.

“I would urge anyone who has seen a man in the area who matches the description given above and appears to be avoiding detection to please come forward.

“We would ask the public not to approach him directly and to please dial 999 immediately.

“There will be an extensive police presence in the area as we carry out these enquiries and officers can be approached by members of the community with any concerns.”

If you see Jason Evans you should dial 999 immediately. Anyone else with information should call 101, quoting incident number 2:388 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
