Officers who saved the life of a two-year-old child and police staff who have dedicated more than 20 years’ service were some of the winners at the latest Dorset Police Awards Ceremony.

PC Lily Edgar and PC Matthew Roberts were handed the prestigious Royal Humane Society Award for their incredible efforts after responding to an incident involving a two-year-old child in cardiac arrest. Officers arrived on scene ahead of paramedics and thanks to their quick and decisive life-saving actions, the child regained consciousness.

Nine individuals from a variety of departments were awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation Award, including Police Constable Mike Green and Police Dog Gerri for saving a man’s life after searching in a remote area across difficult terrain for a high-risk missing person. Thanks to PD Gerri’s meticulous training, the missing person was found, and PC Mike Green was able to administer life-saving treatment.

The Force awards, which took place on Thursday 13 March 2025, also recognise members of the public and volunteers and Trevor Antell of Dorset Search and Rescue (DorSAR) was handed a Chief Constable’s Commendation for dedicating 19 years’ service, playing a pivotal role in the charity’s growth and collaborating seamlessly with Dorset Police.

Chief Constable Amanda Pearson said: “The Dorset Police family is made up of people who are committed to delivering an excellent service, and it is important to stop and reflect on the incredible achievements of those who go above and beyond to safeguard vulnerable people and help make Dorset a safe county for everyone.

“I am incredibly proud of all our award winners; I feel an immense sense of pride being able to recognise our courageous officers, staff and volunteers in this ceremony.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick said: “My congratulations go to all the courageous and exceptional police officers, staff and volunteers who were nominated and received an award. Your outstanding work and service is truly valued and recognised, not just by me and your colleagues, but also by the public as you strive every day to keep the people of Dorset safe.

“Policing is an incredibly challenging job, and that’s why it is so important to acknowledge the incredible work of all the Dorset Police officers, staff and volunteers who day in and day out help to ensure we are one of the safest places in the country.”
