Witness appeal following reported assault in Weymouth

Officers investigating a report of assault in Weymouth town centre are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.15pm on Friday 9 January 2026 of an altercation involving a man and woman who were believed to be known to each other in St Mary Street. The woman was reportedly assaulted and fell to the ground.

It was further reported that another man went to intervene and was assaulted by the male suspect.

Neither victim is believed to have sustained serious injuries.

Following enquiries by officers, a 31-year-old man from Bridport has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in police custody at this time.

Police Constable Aaron Strange, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out fast paced enquiries into this incident and I am keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.

“I am particularly keen to hear from the man who reportedly intervened in the altercation and was allegedly assaulted.”
