Man jailed for violent assault following detailed investigation by officers
A detailed investigation by officers has led to the conviction of a man who committed a violent assault near Poole.
Darryl John Cornish, 41 and of Upton, was jailed at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday 1 April 2025 for charges of non-fatal strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
On Thursday 29 August 2024, Cornish subjected a woman to a sustained assault at an address in Upton.
During the attack Cornish was reported to have strangled the woman, thrown her to the ground, pushed her down the stairs, and thrown her belongings.
The victim fled the address having sustained injuries to her arms, hands, back and neck.
Officers launched an investigation into the incident, carrying out door-to-door enquiries, taking numerous statements and reviewing mobile phone footage.
Following enquiries, Cornish was subsequently charged in relation to the incident. He was jailed for 26 months.
Police Constable Harry Chaplin, of Dorset Police, said: “Domestic abuse is a top priority for the Force and we are fully committed to supporting victims and ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice.
“Darryl Cornish subjected his victim to a sustained and violent assault, which has had a lasting impact on her mental and physical wellbeing. I am pleased that he is now behind bars and facing the consequences for his actions
“I also want to praise the victim for the courage she has shown in supporting our investigation. I hope her bravery will help to give other victims the strength to come forward and report domestic abuse to us, in the knowledge that we will fully investigate the matter and hold offenders to account.”
