Man charged in connection with fatal collision in Poole
A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Poole.
Dorset Police received a report at 2.12am on Wednesday 7 January 2026 that a man had been found unresponsive in Wimborne Road, near to the junction with Heath Avenue, in Oakdale.
Following further enquiries, it was reported that at around 2.06am the man had been involved in a collision with a vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.
Emergency services responded and very sadly the man – 26-year-old Adam McClelland – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following extensive enquiries by officers, a man – aged 51 and of Bournemouth – was arrested in connection with the incident.
After detailed enquiries, led by the Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT), he has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. He is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Monday 10 August 2026.
Officers have been supporting the family of Adam McClelland and they have been informed of developments in the investigation.
