Dorset Police host Citizens in Policing Awards

Dorset Police hosted this year’s Citizens in Policing Awards on Wednesday 7 June, recognising special constables, police support volunteers, police cadets and cadet leaders for their volunteering work.

The event coincided with the end of National Volunteers Week, a week to celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to organisations and communities.

Hosted at Cobham Sport and Social Club, Chief Constable Amanda Pearson opened the evening thanking the volunteers for their selfless dedication to the community, with Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick also in attendance.

The award winners included:

Volunteer Police Cadet of the Year: Harrison F

Volunteer Police Cadet Team of the Year: Wey Valley Police Cadets

Police Support Volunteer of the Year: Janet Ranger, Victims Bureau/ Event Support

Police Support Volunteer Team of the Year: Volunteer Role Players

Special Constable of the Year: Special Constable Paul Trevett

Special Constabulary Team of the Year: No Excuse/Traffic team

The winners will now go forward to represent Dorset Police at the Citizens in Policing South West Region Awards in October, this year hosted by Gloucestershire Police.

Chief Constable Amanda Pearson said: “All of our police staff volunteers, special constables and police cadets and cadet leaders demonstrate amazing dedication and commitment to their communities, and I would like to express my gratitude to them for helping us to keep people safe, be tough on crime and put victims first.

“Our volunteers are at the very heart of our Force, so it is important to celebrate and recognise the efforts and all they contribute to policing and our local communities every day. Whatever role they undertake, it is inspiring to see such commitment and passion and we are honoured to have them as part of our police family.

“This year, our Citizens in Policing teams collectively dedicated almost 33,000 hours to the Force across a variety of roles. I speak on behalf of the Force when I say we are incredibly grateful for all they do.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said: “The professionalism, dedication and commitment shown by the volunteers of the Citizens In Policing programme is incredible.”

This year volunteers have dedicated thousands of hours to policing in Dorset, helping to keep our residents and communities safe - from Cadet Leaders to Special Constables – it doesn’t matter what role these extraordinary people take, they do it with an impressive level of drive and the determination, spurred on by the desire to make our county safer for everyone.

The hours all police volunteers put in are truly appreciated and so I would like to say ‘thank you’ for all you do, your hard work, dedication and commitment is sincerely valued and is never taken for granted.”
