A burglar was identified by officers after being found in possession of stolen property and his DNA was located at the crime scene.

Daniel Simon Bolton, 37 and of Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

The first incident happened at around 8.50pm on Saturday 15 February 2025 at Tesco in Yarrow Road.

Bolton entered the store and handed a mobile phone to the security guard, which provided a distraction allowing him to access two private areas and check the tills for money.

After he found both the tills to be empty, he proceeded to use a tool to open a till on the shop floor and steal £380 in cash from within.

Later that month between Monday 17 February and Monday 24 February 2025, Bolton forcefully broke into a house in Chester Road while the occupants were away.

Once inside the property, he stole a number of items, including the key to a car that was parked outside.

Around a week later, Bolton was arrested and was found to be in possession of the car key, which led to the stolen vehicle being located nearby.

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out and the defendants DNA was located on a screwdriver that was found in the home.

Bolton was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 3 October 2025 to two years and four months in prison.

Police Constable Ted Carlton, of the Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “We are relentless in our efforts to identify burglars such as Bolton and ensure they are brought before the courts.

“Our investigation was able to identify Bolton as the offender and make sure he faced justice for his actions.

“Burglaries have a significant impact on residents and businesses and we are determined in our efforts to pursue offenders.”
