Appeal as man charged for reported racially aggravated assaults and criminal damage in Bournemouth

A man has been charged following an investigation by detectives into reports of racially aggravated assault and criminal damage in Bournemouth, with officers continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Dorset Police received multiple reports on Tuesday 3 June 2025 from around 4pm onwards that a man had assaulted various members of the public in the Littledown area of the town.

These offences reported took place at the Tesco Extra store in Riverside Avenue and the Littledown Leisure Centre in Chaseside.

It was further reported that the man used racially abusive language towards several of the victims, and caused criminal damage to the Holland & Barratt section of the Tesco Extra store.

Officers attended and following fast-time enquiries at the scene, a 21-year-old man from the Bransgore area of Christchurch was arrested. He has now been with charged with racially aggravated assault offences, criminal damage offences, strangulation, affray, threats to kill and possessing an offensive weapon. He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 June 2025.

Detective Superintendent Steve May, of BCP CID, said: “Following swift and decisive action by our officers, a man was detained in connection with this incident and following detailed enquiries he has now been charged and is due to appear in court.

“We are grateful to members of the public who have already provided us with information for our investigation. However, I am still appealing for any witnesses to come forward who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from motorists or residents in the Littledown area who may have captured any relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage.

“Finally, I appreciate this incident may have caused concern to members of the community and I would like to reassure them that a full investigation is still being carried to determine the full circumstances of what occurred.”
